In 2016 I was a single parent, artist and activist. I had a degree in game design and animation that I wasn't using, and I'd been in administration for nearly a decade. While it wasn't my passion by any means, it's what was paying the bills, so I decided to go back to school for business management.

My first year in, I realize I love it just as much as I love design. I'm fascinated by strategy, logic, equation based decision making and the emphasis on communication, crisis management and conflict resolution.

For an independent study in marketing, I started developing the Trans Liberation Art Coalition, TLAC, for short. No one expected it to be more than a thought experiment, but I made it a reality. I acquired sponsors, funding, a venue, artists, performers, the attention of journalists and several news outlets. The show was a huge success, and I won several awards for it, both from academic and community sources. I put together a board, and as a team we were able to write grants for more considerable funding. This allowed TLAC to put on several more shows with an emphasis on diverse representation.

Then covid hit. At first, I felt halted in my work. Then, I started experimenting with the idea of virtual spaces and events. I built a couple of virtual spaces for queer community events. I experimented with virtual tradeshows and academic spaces.

Everything I learned about game design started coming back, and I got the idea to create online spaces that hybridize websites and video games/level design.

I envision a business that has both for profit and non profit sectors.

Virtual spaces (as I'm creating and envisioning them), especially those with corresponding games that can be easily embedded into social media platforms, have enormous potential for monetization across industries. Why have static online spaces, when it's possible to retain all traditional functionality, plus so much more with a more interactive approach? I'm inspired by what Flash wanted to be back in the nineties, only with better tools and technical possibility at my disposal.

Corporate work will fund community outreach. A sort of socialist business model that's designed to exist within capitalism.

This is an emergent front facing technology. This is where events, community and connectivity are headed. It's a sector of content creation that will explode over the next decade. I'd like to grow my studio into an empire.

I hope to see TLAC become an international organization that uplifts queer creators across the globe and connects our international community with invaluable, ever-evolving resources.

Further out, I'd like to buy land where I'll build a studio, training center, emergency housing collective, farm, farm to table restaurant/dining experience, as well as sustainable earth yurts for tourists.

Ultimately, I will create a legacy of opportunity and resources for some of the most disadvantaged and politically targeted people on the planet. One love. We rise together.
